A brief history

East London Community Foundation was originally established in the early 1990s by local people to deliver local business and public monies to good causes.  It was through organic growth, funder confidence and local need that the organisation extended its work organically to cover the neighbouring boroughs across East and North East London and became a community foundation in 1995.

In its early years, as the London North East Community Foundation, the Community Foundation gave out more modest sums. Since 2002, however, we have distributed over £4 million to over 1,000 community groups and projects, touching and changing the lives of thousands people in East and North East London and turning their ideas into reality.

The Community Foundation represents a new generation of charitable organisation, striving to be accountable, transparent, creative and active in engaging committed donors and matching them with areas of genuine concern – helping them to make a difference.
